Somatic Therapy

There’s a disconnect with your body.
You feel numb – like you’re here, but not fully alive. Your mind feels foggy, scattered, and hard to focus.
It isn’t easy to understand what you’re feeling or what’s happening inside your body. You often wonder who you really are.
It’s challenging to have difficult conversations because you often find yourself shutting down. This response is your attempt to avoid conflict while isolating yourself when hurt.
Although you desire closeness and connection, you keep everything inside because it feels unsafe to be vulnerable or to trust anyone completely. You sense that something is missing – a disconnection from yourself that’s hard to put into words.
Somatic therapy is for individuals who feel disconnected from themselves, allowing them to remember who they are.
Pleasing others leaves you empty.
You long to be loved and accepted. You give so much of yourself to others – trying to be the “good,” kind, or easy one – that you end up neglecting your own needs.
Somewhere along the way, you learned to hide parts of yourself just to be accepted – even saying yes when you mean no.
To maintain peace, it is often easier to betray oneself.

Life is on autopilot.
You might not even know what you want anymore. Feeling disconnected for so long makes your mind, heart, and body feel out of alignment. Each day you move through autopilot, feeling distant from yourself, others, and life.
Pushing through creates a cost for your body. To survive, you strive to think your way out of pain by ignoring your body’s signals until it’s screaming for attention: the exhaustion, the tension, the injuries, the chronic stress that never seems to leave.
You’re tired but can’t rest, holding your anger in until it boils over, or you freeze and feel powerless to move forward.
The thought of slowing down is scary.
Some days, you can’t get out of bed. Other days, you run from one thing to another, never feeling settled. You might lose track of time, forget conversations, or drift through the day half-aware.
Part of you knows you’ve been living this way for too long – and another part is scared to slow down enough to feel what’s underneath.

Rather than being broken, you’re protecting yourself.
You’ve learned to disconnect to survive.
Somatic therapy helps you reconnect with your body, your truth, and your sense of safety within.
Let’s explore how somatic therapy can support your healing process.
Let’s build trust and safety together.
The first step in our work together is creating a relationship built on trust. Our sessions involve warmth, genuine listening, and understanding – never judgment.
I want you to feel that this is a space where you can bring your whole self, even the parts that feel messy, uncertain, or hidden. Healing begins when you no longer must do it alone.

Healing involves making a mind/body connection.
I take a holistic approach, recognizing that your mind and body are constantly communicating with each other. Many experiences that shape us – especially trauma – are held not only in the mind, but also in the body. To address this, I include gentle attention to your physical sensations and emotions, helping your body feel safe again so it can finally release what it’s been holding.
As you learn to listen to your body, you will notice and name what’s happening inside – tension in your chest, a knot in your stomach, warmth in your throat, or pressure behind your eyes. I’ll guide you in slowing down and observing these experiences with curiosity rather than judgment, helping you understand what your body is saying.
You will also learn simple, grounding tools that calm the nervous system, helping you be centered, settled, steady, and present when emotions arise. These practices might include mindful breathing, gentle movement, guided imagery, or placing a hand on your heart.
When difficult memories or emotions arise, I’ll help you stay connected and not feel overwhelmed. Together, we’ll move between moments of calm and moments of deeper processing – like gently dipping your toes in the water instead of diving in all at once, allowing your system to release what it wants, without retraumatizing or flooding you. Each minor release brings more space for calm, clarity, and connection.

Then, we integrate what you learned.
I will equip you with self-regulation tools that you can use at any time, both in and outside of sessions. Life will still bring stress and challenge – that’s part of being human – but now you’ll be more centered. When the fight-or-flight response arises, you’ll have the tools to help you feel balanced and calm, with a sense of safety within yourself.
Somatic therapy is about helping you feel safe enough to reconnect with your body, emotions, and life.
With time, you’ll begin to trust yourself more deeply, feel more present in your relationships, and reconnect with the sense of aliveness that has always been within you.
Take the next step toward healing.
Reaching out can feel scary because being vulnerable and open with our feelings isn’t easy – especially when you’ve learned to protect yourself for so long. But you’re here because something inside you knows it’s time. You want better for yourself, and what you’ve been doing isn’t working anymore.
You don’t need to carry this alone. Healing begins with one small, brave step – reaching out for support.
If you’re ready to start feeling more connected to yourself, more at ease in your body, and more aligned with the life you want, I encourage you to take that next step today by calling (209) 650-1246 to schedule your free 20-minute consultation to learn more and see if we are a good fit.
